‘56th Parallel’ refers to the location where we embarked on our very first adventure in Siberia. The location was Krasnoyarsk city, which is located on the 56th Parallel of the north latitude. Simple as that.
In fact, the 56th Parallel has a coincidental significance, most regions in Russia have a territory that touches the 56th Parallel, landmarks at this latitude include Moscow, Novosibirsk, Lake Baikal, the Kamchatka Peninsula, Yekaterinburg and many more. Cool fact – most of the Trans Siberian railway follows the 56th Parallel, with a few deviations here and there.
The birth Of 56th Parallel
In the words of the founder, Michael Schneider.
“56th Parallel was officially born in 2010, after many trips to various parts of Russia, since 2002 s part of my work commitments. Initially I was taking along business associates from Australia, these trips combined business and the best of Russian hospitality, including visiting remote locations in Siberia, fun activities like snowmobile trips, dog sledding, log cabin retreats, discovering and mingling with local indigenous communities.
In time I naturally built relationships with these wholesome people, without even knowing we will work together one day. I fell in love with Siberia, its wild raw nature, and warm inviting people.
As soon as I had any holidays available to me I took the first chance to travel back. I was not interested in any other destination in the world, for me it ticked all the boxes. I must admit, for me, a single man at the time, the beauty and grace of Russian women was a huge factor for wanting to go back every chance I had. I am now very happily married to my soul mate, who is naturally, Russian and a co-founder of 56th parallel. Her name is Anna, she is the beating heart behind 56th Parallel.
Over the years we kept getting feedback from everyone who visited Russia with us, asking “when are we going again”? I saw a gap in the market, I knew that it is hard to deliver an outstanding travel experience in remote areas of Russia, but i knew i could do it well. So I decided to officially create and launch 56th Parallel, a company that will provide outstanding travel experiences in Russia.
