An East to West adventure of a lifetime, travelling from Russia to China on the celebrated Trans-Siberian Railway.

A bucket list experience, the monumental Trans-Siberian railway weaves it ways through taiga forests, vast grasslands and sun-baked deserts, skirting the edges of shimmering lakes and raging rivers, passing through modern cities and villages seemingly forgotten by time. On this classic 15-day Trans-Siberian and Trans-Mongolian railway journey, you’ll get the chance to see Russia in all its historical greatness – in the mixture of cultures and fortunes, in the extravagant and humble architecture, and in the diversity and unity between different people and religions.

Choose to begin your journey in Moscow, the mighty capital of Russia, or take the westbound route from Beijing, China. Along the way, we’ll enjoy several fascinating stops including Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Lake Baikal and Ulaan-Baatar, Mongolia - each destination concealing its own secret treasures and unique cultural discoveries.

Trans-Siberian Railway tour highlights:

  • Kazan: Our first stop will be the city on the Volga River known as the “third capital” of Russia. On a tour of Kazan, you'll discover its intriguing Islamic influence and enjoy a Tartar folk performance with tastings of the local cuisine
  • Yekaterinburg is a modern city steeped in history and mythology. Our guided excursion will include the Church upon the Blood, dedicated to the last days of the Romanovs, and the monastery and temples considered to be the pearls of Russian religious architecture
  • Set foot on the shores of Lake Baikal, the world’s oldest and deepest lake, with a visit to Listvyanka village. Take in panoramic views of the lake, taste fresh lake-caught fish and enjoy the village’s cozy, holiday ambience.
  • The unique Siberian city of Ulan-Ude lies at the crossroads of East and West, harbouring a unique Buryat Buddhist culture. Visit a local dastan (monastery) on a tour of this fascinating and friendly city
  • Ulaan-Bataar rises out of Mongolia’s pristine countryside, a sprawling, pulsating metropolis. Visit the Gandan Monastery, the Mongolian Natural History Museum and the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan
  • Discover the must-see attractions of Beijing, including Tiananmen Square, the Great Hall of the People and the Forbidden City, with a side trip to see one of the world’s greatest manmade marvels, the Great Wall of China

Travel the Trans-Siberian Railway and its branch line, the Trans-Mongolian to China, on an epic overland journey across Russia and East Asia, covering a total of 7,621km.  Travelling aboard one of the most modern Russian trains to ply the rail line, you’ll experience an incredible variety of landscapes and enjoy personalised service, with someone on hand at all times to answer any questions. In two weeks, you’ll cross multiple time zones, discovering a fascinating rainbow of eastern and western cultures, customs and cuisine along the way. This tour includes hotel stays in Moscow and Beijing and planned excursions at every step along the route. If you’ve longed to travel from Russia to China overland and experience the beguiling natural beauty, history and culture along the Trans-Siberian Railway, this is your chance.

Testimonials

Fiona Kemp & Virginia HilyardAustralia

We have had a wonderful time and are so grateful for the assistance from you guys with planning our trip.

Everything was fabulous and went relatively smoothly. It was comforting to see signs with ours names or your company when we arrived at our destinations to transport us to our accomodation. The ger camp was pretty special and we so enjoyed our guide Chuck who treated us more like family than just another couple of tourists. Lake Baikal was also a special place to go to and we found the accomodation there very quirky and entertaining. Train seats also good. Once again thank you for everything!

Mary and Peter HewettAustralia

The Trans Siberian experience was amazing. Where do I start?

We arrived home early last week after an incredible journey across half the world. I certainly want to go back and explore more of both western and eastern Russia! Moscow was a vibrant, incredibly cosmopolitan European city. Clear blue skies and our jet lag provided us with the opportunity to wander around St Basil’s and Red Square at 6am which is the perfect time to see and photograph tourist sites. Boarded the train on Monday evening and were extremely grateful for your suggestion of 2 cabins and the shared bathroom. Visits to various cities across Western Russia – Kazan was a favourite.

Then across Siberia which blew away, all my preconceived ideas. Silver birch trees, rivers and villages full of wooden houses all along the way. Irkutsk was a revelation -I could definitely spend a long time exploring the area.
Peter even managed a haircut there. The best he has had.

Lake Baikal again needs to be revisited and explored properly!

Ulan Bataar was a surprise as was the Terelj National Park. Another future holiday destination which I need to visit before it becomes part of the regular tourist trail.

Finally into China and a day in Erlian waiting around. Unfortunately, the guide there didn’t really seem to know much about the place which is surprising given that there isn’t really that much to see. Onto Beijing which we had all visited a couple of times already so decided that once we were off the train we would leave the tour group as we had already visited all the sites, they were viewing on previous trips.

The Russian train was very comfortable and beautifully appointed. Our cabin attendants were delightful as was our barman and waiter Yuri who was very keen for us to partake of his vodka (which we did of course). We were fortunate enough to be placed in an area of the bar for our meals which contained only 4 tables so felt rather special.

We all think we may have not actually realised what we were getting into which was probably our own fault. There were times we felt like we were on a “cruise on a train” as most tourist activities seemed to centre around three meals a day and for many of the passengers, the opening time of the bar was a high point in their day. Unfortunately, many of the offenders were the Australians. Not a great impression!

A few of our fellow passengers who had booked through agencies in both Israel and the US had been advised to finish the trip in Ulan Bataar, spend a few days in that region and then fly to Beijing. I would probably suggest that if someone asked me as Ulan Bataar and the surrounding area is so interesting. I could have spent a whole day at the museum.

I suppose I felt that we rushed from place to place and seemed to spend the longest amount of time eating 4-course lunches in restaurants in each of the places we visited. I felt that valuable sightseeing time was wasted.
Perhaps an alternative activity could be suggested for those who don’t need a huge lunch.

Anyway, it was an amazing thing to do and the staff were fantastic! I must especially make mention of Elvira who did an incredible job keeping people informed and not losing one person. I don’t envy her job at all.

It has certainly shown me how big Russia really is and given me a taste of some wonderful places to go back to and explore as an independent traveller.

Thank you for all your assistance!
